Steelhouse Lane Birmingham B4 6NW
Police
i was out in bham(first in 5 yrs) with a friend on friday night, a night i had booked in advance, at around 4am i was arrested by poilce for theft of my own handbag and taken to steelhouse lane station, officers there looked a picture of a girl and looked at me and asked me how long i had had my tattoos, i replied about 10 years, (the girl in the pic had no tattoos) they told me the bag had been reported stolen 3 weeks ago. i was searched and put into a small smelly freezing cold cell for 7 hours. i was treated like a criminal. when the officers shifts changed over a new officer came to me and said he was sorry but he can clearly see that the girl in the pic was not me and it had been a case of mistake identity. what happened to innocent until proven guilty?
this whole experience has ruined my night and i will definatley not be going out again. i suffered with post natal depression 5 years ago which was under control and i was finally over but i feel this incident has triggered it off again. i will be putting in a complaint and going to the papers to make the public aware of what our police force spend there valuable time doing and that is arresting innocent people instead of looking for the true criminals.
i feel violated.i have lost all faith that i had in the police.
