The Pleural Plaques National Register has been established by the National Asbestos Helpline (NAH), a leading national information service for asbestos compensation claims & state entitlement benefit.
Plaques are small, localised areas of fibrosis caused by exposure to asbestos fibres, found within the pleura of the lung. The presence of pleural plaques is an indicator that a person has been exposed to asbestos.
On 17 October 2007 the Law Lords upheld a Court of Appeal decision that the existence of pleural plaques does not constitute actionable or compensatable damage. Prior to that, people had been able to bring claims for compensation for pleural plaques.
Claims for other asbestos-related diseases remain unaffected.
By joining the Pleural Plaques National Register, sufferers and their families will be provided with updates to our services and the latest news and information. In addition members of the register will also have access to an extensive range of support services offered through our charitable partners.
